Kareena Leads the Way in Cardiovascular Technology

Sep 27, 2006

In an Australian first, Kareena Private Hospital has recently installed the latest cardiovascular imaging and interventional system from Toshiba, which provides Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA).

The primary use of the catheter laboratory up until now has been to treat and diagnose narrowed coronary arteries that supply the heart muscle.

With the inclusion of DSA, Kareena Private Hospital is now able to provide diagnosis and treatment to other blood vessels outside the heart, such as narrowing of the arteries in the legs, neck and kidneys.

Cardiologist Dr Mark Sader was the first to use the new Toshiba system at Kareena. He said the technology was an excellent advance for the Hospital’s cardiac services.

He said cardiovascular disease remained the biggest killer of Australians (claiming a life every 10 minutes) and it was important to be able to provide the necessary cutting edge technology to care for the community.

“This technology further complements our existing cardiac services at Kareena,” Dr Sader said.

Kareena CEO Sue Panuccio said the new cardiovascular technology was a boon for the Sutherland Shire community.

“Kareena Private Hospital continues to provide excellent health care services for the whole Sutherland Shire. We are proud of our comprehensive services which start with our excellent private emergency centre. We look forward to making this technology available to those in need in the community,” Ms Panuccio said.
