Rehabilitation

Following your procedure at Kareena Private Hospital, you will be seen by a highly experienced orthopaedic physiotherapist. Early involvement from a physiotherapist is vital to a quick recovery to help aid movement and regain strength.

The priority of the team at Kareena Private Hospital is to maximise your recovery by working together with doctors and Allied Health Professionals.

The Rehabilitation Unit has 26 inpatient beds in comfortable surrounds. Operating under a multidisciplinary team approach, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and social work all have major input into the treatment and ongoing management of patients. The Rehabilitation Program offers individualised programs for all patients including a Day Only Program.

The Day Rehabilitation Office is located on the ground floor of the hospital:

A referral will be sent to the Day Rehabilitation office by your specialist, GP, or from the hospital where you were operated on. Once the referral is received by our staff, we will call and arrange an appointment with our rehabilitation specialist, Dr Rianto. Keeping your appointment is important. Please notify us of any cancellations. We cannot start your program prior to you seeing our doctor. You’ll need to bring: A copy of your discharge paperwork from the hospital where your surgery was done. If you have not had surgery, please provide a recent medical history from your GP. A current list of medications.

Please note: there is no right turn from the Kingsway into Kareena Road North.

Day Rehabilitation Sessions:

• Your day rehabilitation sessions will be booked prior to your appointment with the doctor or on the day of your appointment.
• Your start date will factor in clearance from your specialist, a wound check, and the appropriate time after surgery to commence.
• It is normal for patients to attend twice a week, and the sessions run for 3 hours.
• We will endeavour to accommodate your busy schedules, but in order to get you started as quickly as possible, flexibility is appreciated.
• The number of sessions allocated will be in line with Health Fund Contracts and may differ from fund to fund.
• Workcover approval must be in writing from an insurer prior to commencement. Please provide details at your earliest convenience.

Other Information

• If you are utilising private health insurance, please note that Day Rehabilitation in a private hospital is hospital cover and not extras cover. We will admit and discharge you on the day of each of your sessions.
• If you change health funds during your program, we need to be notified immediately as you may no longer be covered.
• A health fund check will be run prior to comencing the program, and if you have an excess or copayment as a part of your health cover, it will be payable at reception on your first day.
• Parking will be validated to all patients attending a day rehab session. Please bring your carpark ticket with you and sign on the non-barcoded side.
