New Developments on the way for Kareena

Aug 21, 2013

Ramsay Health Care recently approved the next stage of development for Kareena following the successful stage 1 development in 2010/11. The new development at Kareena, costing over $20 million will include 6 new consulting suites, a new Day Oncology Unit, an additional Operating Theatre and the inclusion of the single room strategy across all existing wards.

The development will allow Kareena to add to its current services Neuro spinal surgery, Opthalmic surgery, bariatric surgery and a chemotherapy unit most of which until now Sutherland Shire residents have had to travel outside the Shire to avail themselves of these services in a private hospital setting.

The street presence of Kareena will change as a new building that faces the Kingsway will be constructed above the existing car park. The Surgical ward which currently has 18 beds will increase to 36 beds. A second Operating Theatre will be partially constructed (cold shell stage) for future growth, and the Maternity Unit will receive an additional Special Care Nursery cot with 18 private postnatal rooms.

Also included in the developments are expansions for both the Pharmacy and Stores Departments, and relocation of the ICU Unit and Medical Records Department.

Kareena now faces a 4 week design phase before commencement of the major on site works in August of this year.

Kareena Private CEO, Steven Schultze said "We're very excited about this development and for the future of Kareena Private. This development will provide an increase to not only health services in the Shire but also Increased employment opportunities for the local community with the addition of approximately 100 nursing and ancillary positions".

"We're certain that the private patients of the Sutherland Shire will also benefit from the introduction of Chemotherapy services at the hospital and being close to their home support networks".
